Destination: Belize

Belize is a great vacation destination that offers an abundance of activities. It is located beneath Mexico, beside Guatemala. A couple of interesting places I was able to visit in Belize were Placencia, and San Ignacio. Belize provides breathtaking scenery and a friendly atmosphere.

Activities in Belize include various water sports and excursions, such as jungle and ancient ruin tours. There is something for everyone where water sports are concerned.

Whether you are a diver or just want to frolic in the warm shallow waters. The locals offer daily excursions. The tours begin early in the morning to have a full day out on the caye. The variety of marine life and coral is phenomenally beautiful. The trip is well worth taking.

The jungle tours begin with a small boat ride, which sails across the blue waters to an alcove, anchoring on the rough shoreline. The guide leads the way through the jungle cutting a path with a sharp machete. Troops of howler monkeys scream from above in the mangrove trees, snakes slither in the mossy grass at your feet. The guide warns to watch for the nocturnal jaguars sleeping in the surrounding lush vegetation. Walking into the jungle is like walking into a sauna. The air is thick and humid as the sun vainly tries to creep in through the canopy of massive trees. A journey into the jungle is like visiting another world.

Placencia village is so small there aren’t any medical facilities or law enforcement. In this sleepy village there is no need for police. The pace is slow; it takes some getting used to.

In the evenings, everyone flocks to the thatched roofed bars to listen to the reggae bands. Dancing in the sand, enjoying a cool drink is a perfect way to end the day in Placencia.

San Ignacio is located in the mountain region; with many ancient cities to explore. It is a small town that never sleeps. It is crowded and overpopulated, but well worth the trip to learn about the Mayan culture while walking through the ancient cities; the sites are extraordinary. The stone carvings and hieroglyphics are amazing. Meanwhile archeologists perform their digs to uncover the enigma of this interesting culture.

Relaxing on the deck of a rustic cabin facing the shimmering ocean; drawing in the visions this beautiful country has to offer, will forever be scripted on the insides of your mind. Visiting Belize is an experience we all should partake in.
