When it comes to our children, we want to preserve everything about their childhood, especially those first precious days, weeks, and months. I ran into a problem when trying to save my daughter's baby clothes...I simply had no place to store all of them! So, I found ways to save my daughter's clothes that make them more priceless than ever.
Dolls or Beanie Babies:
Using a pattern I made myself, I turned colorful clothing into small beanie babies and dolls. My first was a pink and yellow bunny made from two different onesies. It turned out well and I don't even really know how to sew!
You can make these adorable creatures yourself, here's how:
Make a pattern or buy one from a craft store. (I made mine by just looking at a small bunny that I was using as a decoration in my daughter's nursery. I have also made frogs, hippos, bears, and many more small animals. These dolls are simple and easy to make and only take a few hours if sewn by hand!
Quilts:
To save space, you can turn your baby's clothes into small patches that can be turned into a wonderful quilt! Patches need not be any specific size or shape and the quilts can range from teeny-tiny to large enough to cover a queen size bed. It takes time because baby clothes are so small that you don't get many patches at a time. So, be patient.
In the meantime, if you have no inkling how to sew or for that matter, sew a quilt, check out a book at your local library or take lessons from a friend. I taught myself by simply looking at several patterns and reading several different books.
Your quilt may not turn out picture perfect, in fact, it will probably have a few flaws, but that makes it even more priceless!
Keepsake boxes:
Using colorful sheets or receiving blankets, cover a picture box and turn into a keepsake box. This only takes minutes, patience, and a little glue!
It only takes a little effort and some thought to turn your child's clothes into a keepsake work of art!
